The Circle

We use the Circle to support our culture. We invite children to support each other. We bring the need of one child into the rhythm of the group, to support them from the bottom up, from their friends and from the fabric of our communal energy. We teach to invite and include, and to observe, think, care, be curious and learn about the Other.

Children’s World

We believe that the being of each child is having a unique and sacred experience. We structure our environments, our activities, our routines and our day so as to interrupt this flow as little as possible. We believe that children learn best through play, and learn best through interactions with each other. We are present to guide and support them as needed. We guide them to play with each other, in many cases teaching them how to initiate play and friendship. We teach invitation and cooperation. We step in as needed, in an adult role, and then step out again.

Our Core Values

finland child care values

Family

Parents do the most important, challenging work in our society; raising children! We respect and honor the hard work that they do. We are partners is this role; we work together, communicate regularly, and share a common goal of the best interest of the children. Our specific approach to our family relationships is to ask, “How can we support you?” We will work to accommodate common needs such as part time attendance and affordability, and also have this approach be the basis of our relationship for conferences and other situations that may arise.

Nature

We believe that the natural world provides all of the learning that young children need to do. New challenges and beneficial risks ebb and flow with the seasons. Open play and open space with versatile, moving parts, leave children to their own internal inspiration and creative resources, independently and as a group. This inspires personal growth of all kinds; social, emotional, cognitive, physical and STEM, as children are motivated from within to interact with their surroundings. When a child is pursuing a personal interest, they will retain the information that t hey acquire; this is called child inspired or child led learning, or flow learning. When this learning environment is supervised by a calm, nurturing, care provider, the resulting balance of challenge and safety meets the needs of the developing child precisely.

Community

Finland Community Childcare will promote the concept that the children are at the center of our community. All people have something to offer for our children, and and it is truly an investment in our future!

We will invite, welcome and integrate participation from community members, both as an asset to our childcare, an offering of meaningful work to community members, and an avenue for our community to be comprised of sound, well maintained relationships. Common purpose and shared sustenance are the foundations of community. Towards this concept, we will offer the vibrant, vital activity of our childcare to the local vision for a robust and thriving community.

Programs

We offer a basic childcare program, which is a hybrid of a nature based childcare center and a forest playschool. We have a fully furnished indoor space and a fully fenced in outdoor play scape. We aspire to take walks in the woods and do longer term outdoor seasonal projects, as made possible by our child to staff ratio and the age spread of our children. We may also offer a summer school age program, or after school care. Please ask us for details on our current available programming.

Calendar and Hours

We are currently open Tuesday – Friday, 7:30am to 5:30pm, for 50 weeks per year. We close for two weeks in the summer; ask for current holiday schedule details.
